Kundalini yoga in Estonia

Kundalini yoga was brought to Estonia by Marika Blossfeldt (USA/Estonia), who is more known in Estonia for being a choreographer and dancer.

Marika Blossfeldt: “I was first introduced to Kundalini yoga in New York, in 1993. Ravi Hari Kaur conducted an introductory Kundalini yoga class and I fell in love with this yoga style from the first glance. I continued my studies with Ravi Hari. The first Kundalini yoga classes that I taught myself took place in Estonia in 1994, I taught the actors and dancers in Von Krahl Theatre; that same year I taught Kundalini yoga also at the Baltoscandal Theatre Festival.”

Many teachers of today have had their first Kundalini yoga experience and inspiration from Polli Talu Arts Center.

Marika Blossfeldt writes: “In 1996 I began restauration works in Polli farm and in 1999 the first events took place, including the first Kundalini yoga weekend retreat. Approximately 8 people came the first time but year by year the number of people participating increased and now we host 3-4 weekend retreats every summer, additionally also a week-long international reatreat. The seeds of Kundalini yoga were spread around Estonia, originating from Polli. The participants of Polli Talu yoga retreats have become teachers themselves and the number of Kundalini yoga enthusiasts is constantly growing.”

One of the first people who got inspired by Kundalini yoga at Polli Talu Arts Centre was

Ly Kütt: “Me, Tiina Mirka and Mai-Liis Toivar contacted Satya Singh (Germany) who was coordinating Kundalini yoga teachings in Europe and in 2001 they organized the first introductory seminar that was hosted by a wonderful teacher from Freiburg - Dharma Singh. From there on things started to develop very fast and in the summer of that same year we also partcipated in the European Yoga Festival in Fondjouan (France). Already that same autumn we – me, Tiina and Mai-Liis, began our studies in Moscow. The year 2001 marks the time when regular Kundalini yoga classes started in Tallinn.”

Today there are more than 40 internationally certified Kundalini yoga teachers in Estonia who have gained their knowledge either from the USA, Russia, France, England or Mexico. The international certificate has been given out by the Kundalini Research Institute, USA, and it validates that the teacher has received the appropriate training to the full extent and passed all necessary exams. Starting from 2009, it is possible to take Kundalini Yoga Level I teacher training course also in Estonia.
